I Wayan Sinti was a visiting artist at the Univeristy of Washington from January 2004-June 2006. He has been teaching, composing, playing, and researching Balinese music for 50 years, and is regarded as one of the most important carriers of musical knowledge in a variety of Balinese vocal and instrumental genres. Cokorda Istri Nilawati is a talented dancer and arja (Balinese opera) singer from Singapadu, Gianyar. She is married to I Wayan Sinti and all of their children are accomplished dancers.

The blessing of the new Siwa Nada gamelan was conducted by Visiting Artist I Wayan Sinti and his wife, Nilawati Cokorde Istri, October 17, 2005, in room 58, University of Washington music building, and attended by gamelan members, other students and faculty, and Mary Jean and Robert Gilman. The Siwa Nada instruments were built for the UW Ethnomusicology Program during the summer of 2005 by Pak Sinti and a group of students at the Seattle home of the Gilmans.
