Historical NoteReturn to Top
Louis E. Viko was born in 1896 to Eindred and Margaret Carney Viko in Park City, Utah. He studied for two years at the University of Utah, then completed his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in 1920. Viko practiced as an internal medicine and cardiovascular specialist in Salt Lake City from 1922 through 1967. During this time he was also involved in a number of community activities. Between the years of 1932 and 1939, he served as Salt Lake City Health Commissioner, Utah governor for the American College of Physicians, president of the Utah State Medical Association, and first president of the Utah Public Health Association. He also served for eight years on the University of Utah Board of Regents, was first president of the Utah Heart Association, vice-president of the American Heart Association, and chairman of the Utah State Board of Health. Louis E. Viko died in 1968.
