Biographical Note
Jonathan F. Whetzel (1927-2002) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He served as Washington state representative and senator from Seattle's 43rd district.
Whetzel was a moderate Republican who served in the State Legislature, 1965-1974. He worked with Gov. Daniel Evans to implement Evans' legislative program and was elected to Evans' seat. He served on the Seattle City Council in 1977 and chaired the Public Utilities Committee. He served as president of the Municipal League of Seattle/King County, 1978-80 and other Seattle civic organizations in the 1980s.
In the business world, he served as manager of the Bullitt Company from 1956-1968, was Secretary and Vice President of Properties and a Director of King Broadcasting Company from 1961-1973, and was Executive Vice President and Director of Harbor Properties, 1973-1980. He died on June 9th, 2002.

Legislation, reports, clippings, ephemera, correspondence, campaign materials, newsletters, minutes, committee files, and other papers related to Whetzel's service in the State Legislature and on the City Council, the Seattle Planning Commission, and Seattle Municipal League. Also includes a few files from his employment with KING Broadcasting in its Asian timber operations
