Biographical Note

Environmental activist Helen Engle was founding president of the Tacoma Audubon Society in 1969 and has held other offices in Audubon, including service on the National Board from 1980-1990 and from 1994-2000. Through the Audubon Society, she worked with other activists to protect the Nisqually River Delta from development from approximately 1977 through the 1990s. As a director of the Washington Environmental Council from 1974-1980 and then as President from 1978-1980, she was involved in statewide issues, especially trans-shipment of crude oil. She has served on various state advisory committees, especially those dealing with non-game wildlife.
