Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Pastora Pavón Cruz (1890-1969), aka La Niña de los Peines, was a flamenco singer from Sevilla, Spain. She grew up in a musical family. She is the aunt of Arturo, the first flamenco pianist and sister to Tomas Pavón, another foundational flamenco singer. Pastora began her public singer career at age 8 at the Seville Spring Fair. She went on to share the stage with many of the classical flamenco singers of the Golden Age. Her music is famous for her exceptional singing voice that seems to break the moulds of all previously established techniques. She was particularly known for singing third and quarter tones.
