Historical NoteReturn to Top

Washington Business Week was established in 1976 to prepare high school students to enter the business workforce. The origins of Business Week began in the early the 1970s when Central Washington University President James Brooks began to facilitate meetings that brought together the state’s business and education leaders. Central Washington University hosted the first Business Week in the summer of 1976. Business Week has expanded to three other universities in the state of Washington since 1976. They include Gonzaga University, Pacific Lutheran University and Western Washington University

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
