Biographical NoteReturn to Top
William Edgar Borah was born on June 29, 1865 in Illinois. After several years as a lawyer, he served as a Republican Senator for 33 years (1907-1940). Known as the "Lion of Idaho" because of his progressive viewpoints, he chaired the Senate Foreigh Relations Committee, was against the US joinging the League of Nations in 1918, distrusted government centralization, and supported many New Deal initiatives. Borah died in 1940.
