William James Crawford lived from 1907 to 1970 and worked as an attorney in Oregon. Crawford was born in The Dalles, Oregon and educated at the University of Oregon. He was an attorney in Burns and Portland, Oregon.

The collection contains selected case files from 1949 to 1961. The case files in this collection were removed from a miscellaneous file that was later destroyed. The cases are: 1) First Baptist Church of La Grande, Oregon vs. Oregon State Baptist Convention, 1941-1953, a civil suit over money loaned for the construction of a church. 2) Indian Claims Commission, number 17, Snake or Paiute Indians vs. United States, 1941-1961, a suit to recover value of reservation land. The case files includes photocopies of U. S. Army and Bureau of Indian Affairs documents, 1864-1881, depositions by Indians, and correspondence. Among the documents is "1879 Appraisal of the Former Malheur Reservation, Eastern Oregon, Volume 1," Henry T. Murray, 1958. 3) National Labor Relations Board vs. Pacific American Shipowners Association, et al. This is a series of labor arbitration cases, 1951-1955, in which Crawford was referee. The collection also contains documents on several malpractice investigations by the Oregon Bar Association, 1950-1956.
