Historical NoteReturn to Top

The pipa, sometimes called the Chinese lute, is a four-stringed instrument that first appeared around 2000 years ago from the family of plucked-string instruments. The pipa's pear shape inspired the Japanese biwa, the Vietnamese dan ty ba, and the korean bipa. The modern pipa has 29 or 31 frets and is sometimes designed to be played with an electric amp.
