Walter Marcus Pierce (1861-1954) was a rancher, educator, and politician in Oregon. He served as Umatilla County superintendent of schools; as an Oregon state senator from 1903-1907 and again from 1917-1921; as Oregon governor (1923-1927); and as a U.S. congressman (1933-1943).

A. Churchill, superintendent of public instruction, 1925-1927, regarding political manipulations of textbook publishers' contracts for Oregon schools; and minutes of the State Textbook Commission's meetings, 1925. The collection also includes Dictaphone belts made by Pierce's biographer, Arthur H. Bone, regarding Bone's research about Pierce, the Bonneville Power Administration, the Vietnam War, the Democratic Party, China, and other topics.
