Biographical Note

Educator, public official, state legislator, civic leader.

Pearl Anderson Wanamaker was born 1899. Taught high school and served as Superintendent of Education in Island County. Served as Washington State Representative, 1928-1930, 1934-1936; State Senator, 1936-1940; Superintendent of Public Instruction, 1940-1956; president, National Education Association, 1946-1947; member, United States Education Mission to Japan, 1946 and 1950; president, National Council of Chief State School Officers, 1950.
