Biographical Note

Jewish community leaders Dorothy and Jerome Becker were founding members (1968) of Congregation Beth Shalom, a Conservative Jewish synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of America. Both Dorothy and Jerome served as president of the Congregation (Jerome from approximately 1970 until 1972 and Dorothy from approximately 1977 until 1980). Jerome was also vice-president 1969-1970 and treasurer, around 1968 and 1982. Dorothy was a member of the board of directors approximately 1982 and approximately 1989, served as president of the Beth Shalom Sisterhood approximately 1972, and as vice-president--administration of the Pacific Northwest Branch of the Women's League For Conservative Judaism from around 1969 to 1970.

Historical Background

Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation was formed by the merger of Herzl Conservative Congregation and Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation in 1970. The new congregation relocated from the Central District to Mercer Island, Washington.
