This collection contains papers of Dr. Victor Line Estergreen, a Professor of Animal Sciences at Washington State University, dated between 1960 and 1990. Most of the materials are related to his research on lactation and estrogen studies as well as his role as a graduate advisor, including correspondence, research notes, patent applications, and grant proposals. The collection also contains papers related to the Food and Drug Administration, various professional organizations, and a history of the Animal Sciences Department.

Box 1: Papers related to Dr. Estergreen's work with the Food and Drug Administration, various professional organizations, his research projects pertaining to lactation and estrogen studies, grant proposals, patent materials, and a history for the Animal Sciences Department. These papers include research notes, correspondence, copies of articles, newspaper clippings, and book manuscript materials.

Victor Line Estergreen, Jr. (1925-2016) was born in Sumas, Washington, to Victor and Edith Estergreen. He graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in 1943, and after serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Estergreen received his B.S. degree from Washington State College (now Washington State University) in 1950. Estergreen then received his M.S. degree in Dairy Sciences from WSC in 1956, and his Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology from the University of Illinois in 1960. Dr. Estergreen completed a post doctoral program in steroid biochemistry at the University of Utah before joining WSU as a Professor of Animal Sciences in 1961. Over the course of nearly thirty years, Estergreen studied dairy reproductive and lactation physiology, served as an advisor to several graduate students, and worked with Washington livestock industries on dairy management. Dr. Estergreen retired from WSU in 1988, and continued to support the Department of Animal Sciences through the V. Line and Ellene Estergreen Scholarship. In 2011, Estergreen was honored with the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Animal Sciences Department.
