Historical NoteReturn to Top

Harry F. Wegner (1919-1979) was born at Cameron, Idaho to August and Elsie Wegner. He graduated from high school in nearby Kendrick in 1937. In 1937, Wegner moved with his parents to Pullman, Washington. He was a farmer, civic leader, and Whitman County Commissioner from 1968 until the time of his death. Wegner believed in giving back to the community and did so by serving as the commission chairman on a rotating basis, member on the Pullman School Board for 11 years, the senior council of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, two-term chairman of the eastern district of the Washington Association of County Commissioners, two-term chairman of the state's County Road Administration Board, member of the Washington Urban Arterial Board, of the state legislative committee of the Washington Association of Counties, and on the governing board of the Eastern Washington Area Agency on Aging. In addition to all this, he taught firearm safety to children and helped with the Boy Scouts. Wegner fought cancer for two and a half years before succumbing to the disease shortly before his 60th birthday.
