Biographical Note

Val Limburg (1938-2005) was born in Ogden, Utah to Evert and Madge Limburg. His father owned and operated a grocery store, where Limburg worked in his youth. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1956. He attended Weber State College, earning an Associate's degree in 1958. Limburg then went on a three-year mission to the Netherlands for the Church of Latter-day Saints. In 1961, he married Janet Nims, and attended Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in 1962 and 1964, respectively. He then attended a doctoral program at the University of Illinois from 1964 to 1967, where he was All But Dissertation, when he moved to Pullman.

For 35 years he taught at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication in media law, media ethics, and broadcast management. He retired in 2002 as Professor Emeritus. During his tenure he won many awards, including the "State Broadcaster of the Year" in 1998, granted by the Washington State Association of Broadcasters.

In addition to teaching, Limburg was involved in the Pullman community. He gave many hours of service to the Pullman Kiwanis and served as chaplain for Pullman Regional Hospital. He died on 2005 October 11 after losing a battle to cancer.
