Historical NoteReturn to Top

David F. Allmendinger received a Master of Science degree at Ohio State University in about 1940 and a Ph.D at Washington State College in 1947. Allmendinger worked as a research assistant at the Tree Fruit Branch Experiment Station in Wenatchee, Washington from 1940 to 1947. In the latter year he transferred to the Southwestern Washington Experiment Station in Vancouver. He was later appointed as Superintendent of that station in 1949. In 1953, Dr. Allmendinger transferred to the Western Washington Experiment Station in Puyallap as Superintendent. His responsibilities expanded in 1963 and he was appointed Vice Director of the Washington Agricultural Experiment Stations. Dr. Allmendinger retired as the Vice Director of the College of Agriculture Research Center.

D. F. Allmendinger's files contain extensive research on atmospheric fluorine and its effects on the environment, especially Italian prunes, gladiolas, ponderosa pines and dairy cattle.

Arrangement

The files are arranged alphabetically and contain correspondence, surveys, charts, maps, photographs, meeting minutes, booklets, experiments, actual leaf samples, and copies of legal proceedings involving industrial companies and the farming communities.

Acquisition Information

The records of the Western Washington Experiment Station were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries in November 1977 (UA77-34). The D. F. Allmendinger fluorine research files were separated from the rest of the station records in June 1979 and reaccessioned in February 1981 (UA81-07). Archives 180 consists solely of the Allmendinger fluorine research files.
