Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Richard G. Reid was born December 14, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a B.S. in Forestry with a Forest Production focus from Purdue University in 1960 and did graduate study in Forest Genetics at the University of Idaho from 1960-1962. He received an M.S. in Education from California State University, Hayward in 1979. Reid served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1966.

From 1966 to 1986, he worked in forestry and forest industry fields beginning with the U.S. Forest Service, followed by the Western Timber Association and the Inland Forest Resource Council. He then served as the principal consultant in his own firm, R. Reid Resource Services in Missoula, Montana, from 1986 to 1988. From 1995 to 2004, he headed another firm, Reid Consulting, undertaking international and domestic forestry study tours. He retired in 2005.

Custodial History

Richard G. Reid initially donated papers, including this group of material, to the Forest History Society in Durham, North Carolina. In 1995 that institution transferred these Montana related files to this Archives.

Transferred to the Archives from the Forest History Society, 1995.
