Content DescriptionReturn to Top
This collection consists of six weather diaries with sporadic entries begun on Dec. 27, 1933, followed by consistent records starting in January 1936. Jacobson initially recorded only the 6:00 a.m. temperature each day with a brief note on weather conditions. In April 1936 he began to record 6:00 a.m., noon, and maximum temperatures which he continued to do through the last diary which ends September 21, 1969, little more than three months before his death. Although Jacobson gave no indication of his earlier sources, by March 1937 he culled his records from Missoula newspapers. A small quantity of personal correspondence and news clippings are scattered throughout the diaries. The most notable example of those materials is a postcard letter dated Feb. 8, 1942 to Jacobson from J. Hugh Pruett, Pacific Director of the American Meteor Society at the University of Oregon. This letter acknowledges Jacobson for his sighting and reporting on a meteor. Jacobson is also mentioned in a newsclipping about the meteor. Photocopies of the newsclippings and original correspondence have been left in place in the diaries.
