Ingmar Bergman, a Swedish-born film and theater director, writer, and producer, was born in Uppsala, Sweden on July 14, 1918 to Erik Bergman, a Lutheran minister, and Karin (née Åkerblom), a nurse.

Bergman directed over sixty films and documentaries, and over 170 plays. Most of his films were set in his home country of Sweden, and many were filmed on the Swedish island of Fårö. Death, illness, faith, betrayal, and insanity were often prominent themes in his work. Some of Bergman's more famous films include: The Seventh Seal (1957), Wild Strawberries (1957), Persona (1966), Cries and Whispers (1972), and Fanny and Alexander (1982).

Ingmar Bergman passed away July 30, 2007 in Fårö, Sweden.

This collection is comprised of the typed script for Love Without Lovers , a film/play written by Ingmar Bergman but never performed. Included as part of the script is a letter, written by Bergman, to his "Friends and Collaborators." The letter details his motivations for writing the script, details of the plot, and the "framework" the performance should follow. Alan Blair translated the script from the original Swedish.
