This collection represents records collected and created by Merle and Luther Harris of Helena and is arranged into two sub-groups. Sub-group I, "Milan State Bank," is comprised of material that details Luther Harris's period of employment at the Milan State Bank in Milan, Missouri, and his indictment for allegedly accepting funds despite having knowledge of the bank's insolvency. Sub-group II, "Harris Family," is comprised of personal material of the Harris family, and includes biographical material (including a record of Harris family births, beginning in 1830); correspondence between Merle and Luther during their courtship, and to Luther and Merle after their marriage (1922-1966); a diary kept by Merle or Luther Harris (1950); miscellaneous financial and legal documents, including mortgage and deed documents, and bank registers; minutes taken by Merle Harris for the Pythian Sisters Auxiliary of Estrelita, Temple H4 (1942-1945); a completed Gregg Shorthand exercise book (Merle Harris); and miscellany.
