Colonel John S. Mosby – Incoming
Letters received from Colonel Mosby have been arranged chronologically and placed at
the beginning of the series. When the collection was received, letters were still in
their original envelopes. Those that aid in the identification of a particular piece
by date or correspondent have been filed with their enclosures. Other envelopes were
retained as a record of names and addresses of Beverly Mosby's business and personal
contacts (See groups "B" and "C", Legal Records and Ephemera). The remainder was
discarded. Many of the envelopes originally contained enclosures of newspaper
clippings and letters Colonel Mosby received from other people, before passing them on
to his son. With the exception of the clippings which are filed separately at the end
of Colonel Mosby's correspondence, the remainder has been kept in their original
order. The incoming letters of correspondents other than Colonel Mosby have been
arranged alphabetically by writer. Outgoing correspondence is chronologically
arranged.
