The collection contains diaries and letters Wichman kept during his military service, and during a voyage around the world in 1901.
The nine diaries and four letters give a detailed account of Wichman's experiences as ordinary seaman and as enlisted man in the Philippines during the Spanish-American and Philippine-American Wars, and on a subsequent voyage around the world.
