Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Aşık Veysel (1984-1973) was a ashik and poet from Sivas, Turkey. He was blinded in one eye from smallpox and in the other eye from an accident as a child. In his songs, he sang about how he interpreted the world as a blind man and the inevitability of death. He is remembered for his contribution to the turkish language and the solidarity that his music inspired. The house he grew up in now serves as a museum.
