Photostat manuscript letters, 50 pages, from Lt. Colonel (later General) John Summerfield Hawkins, Royal Engineer, of Her Majesty's Boundary Commission. The letters were written from London and the Pacific Northwest to various officials in the War Office, London, England, 1859-1862, concerning the marking of the International Boundary at the 49th parallel between British Columbia and the Washington Territory.
