John Henry Johnson (1838-1940) was a Civil War veteran from Illinois. He moved to Oregon in 1883, settling in Sherman County.

Collection consists of photocopies of two manuscript letters from John Henry Johnson to his sister, Mary E. Warren, of New Berlin, Illinois, dated January 25, 1863 and March 2, 1865; and a photocopy of Johnson's manuscript diary of the Civil War, October 10, 1864-May 1865. The original diary and letters were retained by family members.
