The collection contains materials gathered by Schwartz while researching for his Ph.D. dissertation concerning the Rogue River War and the treatment of western Oregon tribes from 1850 to 1986. Collection focuses include the Rogue River War, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and restoration of Siletz tribal status. A secondary focus is the 1985 murder trial of Dino and Gary Butler. Copies of Schwartz's dissertation and book, The Rogue River Indian War and Its Aftermath, 1850-1980, are included.
