Content DescriptionReturn to Top
One notebook containing fieldnotes from Theresa Miller's ethnobotanical research in northeastern Brazil. During her fieldwork in July 2011, Miller researched gardening practices (particularly maize cultivation) and varietal diversity maintenance in the Ramkokamekra-Canela village of Escalvado in Maranhao, Brazil. The fieldnotes contain information on ethnobotanical lists, a diary of daily life, a layout drawing of the village, a description of the village and village life, a description of gardening and harvest rituals, myths about the origin of maize and of the sun and moon, information about gift-giving and Evangelical Christianity, notes on agricultural techniques and practices, and a brief history according to the Ramkokamekra-Canela Messianic movement.
