Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Rabbi Sabetai Israel served in Congregation Ezra Bessaroth from 1918-1923 and in Congregation Ahavath Ahim from 1925-1930. His son, Leon Israel, is a professional singer, now retired, who was a cantor soloist for 30 years at Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Seattle.

Articles, remembrances, certificates, correspondence, a photograph, rabbinical documents, and related papers (partially photocopies) relating to Rabbi Sabetai Israel and his son, Leon Israel, approximately 1918-1990. Many of the documents are not in English, possibly in Ladino. Also includes a 45 rpm recording of Leon Israel singing "Ehad Mi Yodeah" and Kiddush, no date.
