Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Mike Hallacy collection consists of digital scans of 28 black and white and one color print of the Green and Colorado Rivers. The originals were loaned to the University of Utah by Mike Hallacy in October 2003. They depict some of his river trips on the Green and Colorado Rivers with Reynolds-Hallacy River Expeditions. With A.K. Reynolds, his brother-in-law, Mike Hallacy started the company in the late 1940s to take passengers down the Green River from their home in Green River, Wyoming, through the Uinta Mountains to the Uintah Basin in eastern Utah. Occasionally, Mr. Hallacy went as far as the Colorado River, but most of his trips were on the Green River. These particular images document a 1949 trip with film maker Al Morton; a 1950 film trip sponsored by the Union Pacific Railroad Company; and a late-1940s run on the Wind River in Wyoming. Much of the area documented in the photographs is now covered by the waters of Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
