Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Intermountain Conference on Children's Literature records (1965-1987) contains registration forms, daily schedules, conference programs, a transcript of remarks, notices, memos, announcements, book and film lists, flyers, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters, author profiles, evaluation forms, correspondence, and other documents. The collection contains materials gathered at the bi-annual Intermountain Conference on Children's Literature, as well as from the 1966 Intermountain Conference on Young Adult Literature. Elliott Landau provided the impetus for the children's literature conference organization in 1961 and acted as its director for twelve years. Marilou Sorensen replaced Landau in 1973, directing the conferences until 1987. These conferences, held on the campus of the University of Utah and sponsored by its education department, were dedicated to promoting children's education through literacy.
