Tape recorded interview conducted by R. C. Berner on 17 Nov 1969 at the home of Jassen's son Charles. Accession also includes copies of two documents, 6 photographs, and the passenger list of the ship "Mauritania" dated 28 July, 1923.
Interview covers family migration to Israel from Sebastopol in 1919, conditions in Palestine at that time, the general poverty, and British and Arab persecutions. Reference is made to the first salt mine operation established by a Mr. Surdin. From the related documents (A.D.S., 21 Sept 1936, Allit, Palestine) this appeared to be British owned, although Jassen is sure that the "French" financed it. Two photographs are of this salt mine. The Jassen and Twersky families emigrated from Europe on the "Mauritania".
Note: Jassen's passport bears a birthdate of 1892 but this is incorrect as she was born in 1895. Also, all documents bear a variant spelling: Yassen or Yassin.
