Born in 1892 near Vienna, Mrs. Steinbrecher and her husband operated a grocery store in Vienna until 1938.

Tape-recorded interview conducted by Karyl Winn and M. Kaplan on 4/17/72. The accession also includes a photograph and a letter from her son, Kurt, upon his arrival in the United States.
In the interview, she describes how life was for her and her family in Vienna under the Nazis and her efforts to leave Europe. She and her husband finally left in September 1940 and came to Seattle via Harbin with the help of the Hebrew Immigrant Aide Society.
