Two tape recorded interviews covering the years 1916-2000, taken on September 7, 2000 and August 31, 2004; transcripts, photograph.
In the 2000 interview Ada Ash describes life in Russia before she emigrated to the United States in 1920. She discusses her father's musical and employment history from Russia to Portland to Seattle. The interview includes an account of Ada's musical experience from age six until her retirement from the Seattle Symphony in 1980. She discusses what it was like to be Jewish and female in the Symphony. Ada talks about conductors, musicians, and the orchestra's tour of Austria after World War II. In the 2004 interview Ada Ash describes her brother Joey Golden. She describes his struggle to become a musician, against their father's wishes, and his success as a French Horn player for the New York Philharmonic. Ada describes the close relationship she had with her brother.
