Rabbi of Temple Beth El in Tacoma, a Reform congregation formed by the 1960 merger of Temple Beth Israel and Sinai Temple. Rabbi Rosenthal has served in Tacoma since 1956.

Tape-recorded interview conducated by Isabel Stusser, 8/24/89, with transcript. Biographical features, 1960; historical features of Temple Beth El, 1891-1960.
Rabbi Rosenthal grew up in shreveport, LA after fleeing Germany with his family in 1939. He describes congregation Temple Beth El after coming to Tacoma. Rabbi Rosenthal discusses the Pincus family, hop growers originating in Steilacoom, who later moved to Tacoma and the Manlock and Gross families. Most of Tacoma's Jewish families came after Ft. Lewis was established in 1917. Temple Beth Israel, the reform congregation and the Chevra Talmud Torah Orthodox congregation (name changed to Sinai Temple) are discussed. He tells of reform-orthodox relations and the religion school in the 1920's and 1930's. Rabbi Rosenthal tells of the merger of Beth Israel and Sinai congregations and the changes in Temple Beth El.
