Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Joe Cone is Assistant Director and Communications Leader for Oregon Sea Grant; he began work with Oregon Sea Grant in 1983. A Common Fate, explores the history and sociology of salmon depletion in the Pacific Northwest and tells the stories of Northwest citizens working to prevent extinction. Cone's book was originally published in 1995 by Henry Holt. A revised edition, with epilogue, was published by the Oregon State University Press in 1996.

The Joe Cone Papers consist of materials created and assembled by Cone in the course of his research and writing of A Common Fate: Endangered Salmon and the People of the Pacific Northwest. The Papers include correspondence, notes, and chapter drafts; reference materials such as legislative bill statements, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, news releases, publications, reports, speeches, and statistical data; and sound recordings (52 cassette tapes), transcripts, and notes of interviews conducted by Cone and meetings he attended. The collection also includes computer files on CD-ROM.
