Historical NoteReturn to Top
Washington was home to several peace organizations prior to the founding of Peace Action. Live without Trident existed from about 1978 to 1980; and the Nuclear Freeze Campaign started in 1981, which had nearly 30,000 members statewide. Puget Sound SANE (or Puget Sound Committee for a SANE Nuclear Policy) was started sometime around 1957, which became Washington State SANE/FREEZE in 1989. Washington State SANE/FREEZE changed to Peace Action of Washington in 1994. Peace Action continued to do business under that name, but also became affiliated with Peace and Justice Alliance.
