Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Fred L. Ribe (born 1924) was a professor of nuclear engineering at the University of Washington. He received a PhD in physics from the University of Chicago in 1951, then worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a staff physicist (1951-1959) and as Group and Division Leader for the Controlled Thermonuclear Research Division (1959-1977). Ribe joined the University of Washington in 1977 as Professor of Nuclear Engineering, where he taught fusion engineering and plasma physics. His research focused on experimental and theoretical plasma physics, and on fusion reactor design. Ribe became Professor Emeritus in 1989.
