Biographical Note
Franklin S. Harris Jr. (1912-1999) was born in Logan, Utah, received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Brigham Young University in 1931 and 1936, and his Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1941. His principal areas of research were "connected with light in photographic and electrical recording and measurements of the diffraction of light."

The Franklin S. Harris Jr. papers (1920s-1997) contain the personal, teaching, and research files of this noted Utah-born scientist. The collection contains much of his research on diffraction and the subject of optics in general. Also present are materials relating to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the relationship between science and religion.
