Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Frank M. Slagle (1855-1934) was born and raised in Iowa. He married Fannie Countryman (1858-1939), and their their three children, Helen, Virginia, and Christian, were born in Alton, Iowa. He was a businessman involved in a variety of ventures across the United States, including mining, agriculture, and lumber. He moved to Pullman, WA, circa 1908, in search of new opportunities, while his wife remained at their home in Brookline, Massachusetts. He acquired farm land in the Pullman area and elsewhere in the Palouse region, and once he was established his wife joined him. He founded and operated the Palouse Country Improvement Company, and was one of the founding members of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce.

This collection includes Frank McConnell Slagle's autobiography, Recollections of A Lifetime (1964), correspondence, a scrapbook ("Alaska Wheat," 1908-1911), day books (1876-1904), materials related to mining in California (correspondence, map, photos, etc., 1890s), a few items related to Slagle's involvement in the Home Builder Mining and Development Co., a genealogy, a stock book and a cash journal (probably Palouse Country Improvement Co.), photographs (circa 1908-1914), digitized photographs of Pullman (early 1900s, on compact disc) and a few flower show ribbons.
