Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Harold Whitehouse was born in 1884 in Somerville, Massachusetts. He attended Cornell University where he took a study tour of Europe under H. E. Phalps. He began practice as a draftsman in 1902 for Fox, Jenney and Osle. In 1908, he became a partner in Keith and Whitehouse and is registered in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Mr. Whitehouse was president of the Spokane, Washington chapter of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.) In 1913 he partnered with Ernest Price. Some notable buildings designed by Mr. Whitehouse include the Music Building and the Fine Arts Building at the University of Washington; the Administrative Building at the University of Idaho; Anscortea Hospital in Anscortea, WA; Women's Dormitory at Gonzaga University; Lincoln Office Building in Spokane, WA; and United General Hospital in Sedro Wooley, WA. He also designed Episcopal churches in small towns throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Epiphany Church, Seattle, WA Founded in 1907, the women of the parish chose the name
Epiphany. The chapel was built in 1911 by Ellsworth Storey. The Parish Hall was
built in 1941 by Whitehouse and the Sanctuary was built in 1951, also by
Whitehouse.

Hutton Settlement, Spokane, WA The settlement originally sat on 15 acres of land, now sits on
319 acres. An orphanage home and land founded by Levi Hutton, it was
established in 1917 and built in 1919. The home was established to provide a
"Happy Home" for children. The settlement is designed to be self-sufficient by
having crops, gardens, and animals.
