Gustave Stern was a musician and conductor of choral music and opera. Gustave Stern died in 1990.

Tape-recorded interview covering the years 1900 to 1979 and conducted by Dr. Eric Offenbacher on 10/29/1979.
Mr. Stern's youth in Germany (Duisburg, Leipzig, Cologne) is discussed as well as his emigration from Germany in 1933 and his nine-year stay in Paris. He arrived in the United States in 1942 and temporarily stayed in New York, Chicago and Fargo, N.D. before arriving in Seattle in 1945. He discusses his various activities and positions in musical life in Seattle as a voice teacher and conductor of opera, as choir conductor at various Seattle synagogues, and as a Music Director for the Greater Seattle Parks Dept. He also discusses musical life in general and opportunities for young singers in this country and abroad.
