Content Description

The Oregon Chapter of the Wildlife Society Records document the leadership, membership, programs, and administration of the organization and consist of newsletters and photographs. The newsletters include lists of officers, a column by the chapter president, agendas and announcements for chapter meetings and conferences, legislative news, and other news and announcements. Information about political measures and ecological issues impacting Oregon wildlife and positions taken by the Chapter are available in the newsletters. The newsletter was published 2-3 times per year. Newsletter issues for 1965 through 2001 are included in the collection.

The photographs consist of 202 b/w and color prints affixed to album pages. The images are mostly arranged in chronological order and have detailed descriptions of the date of the photograph and the event and individuals depicted in the image. The photographs document annual meetings, award ceremonies, and officers of the organization for the period 1966-1990. Photographs of the crab feed and photo contests that were part of the annual meeting are included. Several Oregon State University alumni and faculty are depicted in the photographs; these include Andy Landforce, Roland E. Dimick, Charles Meslow, Bill Wick, Carl Bond, B.J. Verts, T.G. Scott, Jack Thomas, and Lee Kuhn. Other individuals depicted in the photographs include Gail Achterman and Vic Atiyeh.

The collection also includes 116 image files created by the Chapter in 2013. These are digitized versions of 102 photographs and one newspaper article that are also available in original form in the collection. For twelve of these photographs, digitized versions of the verso (back) of the photographs are also included. The original photographs were scanned at 600 dpi and saved as jpg files. These electronic files are available to on-site researchers in the Special Collections and Archives Research Center reading room.
