Historical NoteReturn to Top
David McKenzie was born on 27 December 1833 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to David McKenzie and Elizabeth White. He joined the LDS Church in 1853 and emigrated to Utah in 1854. He was an engraver, painter, publisher of the Millenial Star, military man, and manager of the Salt Lake Theater. He married Mary Ann Crowther in 1859. He served in many church capacities and died in 1912.

The David McKenzie papers (1860-1962) include early programs, playbills, tickets, scripts, librettos, and other materials related to the Salt Lake Theater, as well as some personal papers of David McKenzie (1833-1912), manager of the theater. Among the personal papers are correspondence, genealogical materials, writings, and his journal. Some items regarding Maud Adams, a well-known actress, are also present in the collection.
