Rich Varga was a professional snowboarder during the 1980s. Due to an injury in 1991, Varga retired and never returned to professional competition. This collection documents Varga's development as a snowboarder as well as the development of the sport of snowboarding. Images of white water kayaking, a summer hobby of Varga's, are also included in the collection.

The manuscripts counterpart of the Rich Varga collection contains copies of first issues of several snowboarding magazines and clippings of articles picturing Varga. The photograph collection contains digital scans taken from photographs and 35mm slides only. The originals were retained by Rich Varga.
