It changed names several times and was variously known as Willamette Iron and Steel Works, Willamette Iron and Steel Corporation, Willamette Iron and Steel Company, and Wisco.

In 1865, the Willamette Iron Works began operating in Portland, Oregon, and was known for producing the "Willamette Donkey" for logging operations. In 1904, after moving from its downtown location to the waterfront, the company changed its name to Willamette Iron and Steel Works. In 1938, the company was organized as Willamette Iron and Steel Corporation. During World War II, it became a shipbuilding contractor for the United States government. In 1946, the company was sold and became known as the Willamette Iron and Steel Company. Later, the company was also known as Wisco.
