Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Mouth of Columbia River jetty system was constructed between 1885 and 1939 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is made up of three jetties (Noth Jetty, South Jetty, and Jetty A) totaling 9.7 mile in length. The jetties minimize navigation channel maintenance and make passage safer for vessels transiting between the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River.
