Biographical Note
John P. Soule was born on October 16, 1828 in Phillips, Maine. Soule worked as a photographer in Boston from around 1859 until 1882 when he traveled west photographing in Colorado and Utah along the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and in Salt Lake City. In 1888, John Soule moved to Seattle, where he continued to work as a photographer. Soule photographed the aftermath of Seattle Fire of 1889 and the rebuilding thereafter. He continued to live in Seattle, occasionally making photographs of the growing city, until his death in 1904.

Album of photographs by John P. Soule, including images of Soule, his wife Mary and his sister-in-law, Mrs. McAlpin, at the Soule home in Seattle; Lake Washington bicycle path; downtown Seattle; the USS Iowa in drydock; and Native American canoes and campsite on the shore.
Other Descriptive Information
The collection consists of an album and four loose photographs. It appears that two of those photographs probably fell out of the album.
