Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Dr. Nicolas K. Kiessling was a Professor in the Department of English at Washington State University from 1967 to 2000. Dr. Kiessling received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin in 1967. While at WSU, Dr. Kiessling taught courses primarily pertaining to literature from the Old English period to 17000. Dr. Kiessling's research focused on Robert Burton and his book The Anatomy of Melancholy, as well as the life and works of Anthony Ă Wood. Dr. Kiessling published The Library of Robert Burton in 1988, The Library of Anthony Wood in 2002, and received a Fulbright grant to teach in Casablanca in 2003 and 2004.

This collection contains research materials and papers of Dr. Nicolas K. Kiessling, a Professor in the Department of English at Washington State University from 1967 to 2000. The collection consists of papers pertaining to Dr. Kiessling's research on Robert Burton's library and his book The Anatomy of Melancholy, including grant applications, lists of book collectors, histories of Robert Burton, copies of articles and book pages, as well as incoming and outgoing correspondence, and Dr. Kiessling's notes. The collection also contains manuscripts of Dr. Kiessling's work on Robert Burton and Anthony Wood, and a copy of his book The Collection of Anthony Wood in the Bodleian Library.
