The Office of the President at Central Washington University originated with the appointment of a Principal for Washington State Normal School by the Board of Trustees in the fall of 1891. The title of Principal was changed to President in 1914 and continues in use to the present day.

Items in this collection document the establishment of Washington State Normal School, changes to its name, administrative and curriculum changes, consolidation attempts, student life, scholarships, anniversary celebrations, student protests against the Vietnam War, building construction, land use zones, and lists of early graduates.
Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
