Content DescriptionReturn to Top
Tape-recorded interview of Edward Larrabee Barnes by Edward A. Duthweiler (of the AIA) about the Allen Library on November 21, 1990. Barnes discusses the elements that inspired his design of the Allen Library and influenced the way in which the building was situated. He answers questions about the objectives of the exterior treatment, characterizes the architectural design of the building and discusses the project's effect on his philosophy of design. Barnes also comments on the design review process, the requirement to use an affiliated architect and the University of Washington as a client. Finally, he reviews his work, focusing on some details that he might have treated differently. A second cassette, Tape 760B, is a duplicate copy.
